Hi Paula-- thanks for your comments! I have seen Qtask Demo'd and have even talked with their sales reps and have an account. BUT I too am a SP fan. I think with so many enterprises having MS products in house already it is a natural to use SP. It integrates with Office and has an interface that is familiar to most. I think that in whatever solution you go with however it is important to map out and do analysis up front. All products can be disasterous or incredible dependent upon that! Adoption is key! Folks seeing the importance and value of using a collaborative tool-- replacement of the old ways of doing things (ie email, network drives, etc) and using the new methods to share ideas, information and documents. Good luck and keep me posted. Happy Collaborating!

Debbie,

I am thinking that SharePoint provides a great deal more in terms of functionality especially including 3rd party products to leverage for document capture, scanning and BI in terms of PerformancePoint. We have a Microsoft EA which provides us with free enterprise-level SP. Most of the issues I see around SP are just issues related to proper implementation, roll-out, adoption - ie. Governance. Some of my users want to go with QTASK but to me that is like going with a small niche player with limited functionality. What is your take on QTASK versus SP?

Never too late for the conversation! One thing to remember is to always start with the need! Assess the holes, gaps and pain points of collaborating and communicating first. THEN see which of the social networking tools will fill those needs. Better to have the user's needs define the solution rather than pushing down a solution and telling them it is the answer. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi I know I'm pretty late to the conversation but I'm trying to get my company and our clients using social networking as a tool in our Community Outreach department. Any thoughts as to how I can better implement such a program?
Thanks
Hugh

Nice writeup!
Its very true that e-mail should only be used to communicate and not collaborate. Using e-mails to collaborate is the worst part of managing projects. It creates a mess. I use e-mails only for personal communication, for collaboration I am using DeskAway (http://www.deskaway.com). DeskAway provides the basic features that a pm tool should have. Additionally it also has a calendar section, can send messages to team members, get complete project reports & user reports, full export/backup and much more that too at a very affordable price.

I will tell a case how we have implemented and started to use with a joy Learning management system(LMS) for SHarePoint.

How it was? Very simple:
Our HR girls created some courses materials using Rapid Authoring tools and software . As a result courses appeared to become very rich of multimedia and our employees were happy to pass them.

So if you want someone to do something - make him smile in the process :)

In our univercity we have been used SharePOint for document circulation, archive and accounting. During 2008 year the most impact on our SharePoint collaboration has been done by 2 tools:
Podkasting tool which were used by our internal radio univercity enthusiasts - they podkasted univercity news in audio format to all 20 000 students and teachers-
i personally listened to their news periodically.

The second tool is Learning management system(LMS) for MOSS 2007 which was used by our HR department to create a base of tests and courses for internal learning.

Anyway as far as i can see SharePoint has additional plugins which greatly extend it's functionality and also because of this i think SharePoint is so popular too.
